Let me tell you a little about Last Hope and it's occupants. Last Hope was started in honor of a wonderful person named Mona Schmitz. Mona had so much passion and love to help all stray feral cats, that were hurt, abused, or wanting to be loved. She wanted to help avoid the overpopulation of these kitties so through out her time here she spayed and neutered numerous of kitties.
Through a terrible tragedy Mona is no longer with us. I got to meet her through my work as a groomer and you can see her love for these animals was contageous. In honor of her, Her mother Renate a beautiful person, with some volunteers took on Mona's dream and built what is now known as Last Hope Cat Kingdom.
It has not been easy, Renate has been through a lot in her life. From the loss of loved ones, health problems, lack of supplies and then a fire set loose on Last Hope Cat Kingdom. Renate, someone I look up to and adore, took it all on and with the help of others rebuilt Last Hope.
Today Last Hope Cat Kingdom is now a place where cats and their paw friends that have joined them can now relax and enjoy open space, good friends, and the love of the Last Hope Staff and volunteers. What used to be for cats has now expanded to cats and dogs, as well as horses, pigs, goats and more. They are still working on making it a better living environment for the animals. They are looking into getting cement flooring for the dog kennels. Each cement floor costs quite a bit. Last Hope employees and volunteers do not get paid to be there and help out they do it out of the kindness of their hearts.
If you would like to help out and donate but are not sure how, here are several ways to do so.
1) Donating Time: You can go out and visit Last Hope. They are always looking for volunteers to help clean, feed, and of course to pet and love on the animals. *There is an age limit to helping. I believe you have to be 18 or older to go volunteer without and adult, if you are 16 to 17 you need to have an adult present while you volunteer. Please DO NOT drop off your kids and then come pick them up. Last hope can not be babysitting or responsible if something should happen however if you and your family would like to come out and pet the animals you are very welcome to just make sure there is an adult accompanying them at all times. Thanks :)* To Volunteer contract Email: [email protected] or call- Phone: 209.357.5425.
